Project Manager

This is currently a full-time remote position. However, preference will be given to applicants within transit or driving distance of our home base in New York City to allow for regular in-person meetings in the post-pandemic future.

We are seeking a full-time Project Manager to join our growing strategy team.

The Project Manager is an integral member of LaPlaca Cohen’s Strategy practice, a creative, rigorous, nimble team committed to bringing transformative, innovative, and actionable strategies to the creative sector. We work alongside non-profit and philanthropic organizations to envision their greatest futures, find inventive solutions to their most pressing challenges, and develop strategies that will shape the future of culture. Project Managers help our projects run more seamlessly and, in turn, magnify the impact we can have within the cultural world.

The Project Manager will report to the Project Director and will support the work of a growing team of Strategists, peer Project Managers, and Fellows.

You are stellar at:

  • Time Management & Organization: You are highly organized, detail oriented, and thrive in ecosystems of order and structure that help to make your day and your teammates’ days run more smoothly. You always meet your deadlines and support others in setting up systems that help keep projects on track.
  • Self-Initiative: Taking the agency and ownership of your work, managing tasks proactively.
  • Adaptability: You approach troubleshooting with a mindset of flexibility and possibility, adapting to the changing needs of client or stakeholder realities through the course of projects, pivoting to explore efficient solutions for the best path forward.
  • Empathy: You can read the energy of the project team and our clients, course correcting project plans where needed to help achieve the best quality work without over-burdening any one stakeholder group.
  • Communication: You can communicate project needs with clarity and confidence, ensuring that all stakeholders are clear on next steps. You are an attentive listener, seeking to align the needs of our project team, our clients, and collaborators. You ask questions when priorities are unclear and raise flags early if project alignment is needed.
  • Keeping Cool: You can balance multiple projects and deadlines with cool-headed composure and are not easily flustered under pressure. You proactively work to reduce common stress triggers, such as missed deadlines and miscommunication.
  • Continuous Learning: You take pride in enhancing your work and sharing learnings with others to enhance processes and approaches. You grow from mistakes and are passionate about self improvement. You are eager to teach and learn from others.

A typical week in this role looks like:

  • Planning and roadmapping project timelines, due dates, and workflows.
  • Serving as an active participant in meetings with the client teams, taking notes and drafting recaps.
  • Contributing to research and strategy development for client projects.
  • Contributing to team brainstorms and ideation about the future of culture, applying your problem-solving skills in contexts far beyond day-to-day project management.
  • Collaborating with peer Project Managers and Project Director to enhance the systems, processes, and approaches to roadmapping and planning projects.
  • Assisting with new business development in close collaboration with LaPlaca Cohen leadership, such as drafting dossiers and conducting market research for prospective projects and developing new business presentations.

  • 2-4 years of full-time professional experience, especially in a project-based capacity.
  • Experience managing projects from start to finish, including proven ability to plan workflows, prioritize tasks, and communicate action steps to others.
  • Passion for developing strategies and insights dedicated to BIPOC audiences and BIPOC-serving nonprofit organizations.
  • Dedication to and passion for the cultural and creative world, whether that be visual arts, public space, performing arts, design, architecture, etc.
  • Knowledge of project management tools (e.g. Asana, Trello) and approaches is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Keynote, Excel, and Google Drive is a plus.

Salary Range:

  • $55,000 – $65,000
